WCMO-SWMO Area | After recently losing a good paying job a family member wants me to loan them 5K to go to a 4 week truck driving school..I have loaned them money in the past and its always been paid back..They have had numerous jobs over the past 20 years and are still hunting for that one perfect job that just doesnt exist...All of the sudden they think that truck driving is it.
I told them that half the truck driving schools are a joke and will just take your money..They will promise you the moon and send you out of there barely knowing how to even drive a semi..This person also thinks that they can immediately land a driving job with awesome pay and that they will be home every night with their wife and kids..That just doesnt happen..Most trucking companies wont even hire you without 2-3 years of class A experience..
When we were all just out of HS lots of my friends drove trucks for 5-10 years..That resulted in most of them getting divorced.When they remarried most of them got away from trucking and their second marriages all lasted..Only one of them drove a truck for his entire life...Another friend finally quit over the road driving and hauled gravel locally for 10-15 years before retiring..He was much happier doing that..
How do you explain to someone that driving a semi just isnt as glamorous as it seems..I can almost guarantee you that if I loan them this money they will be tired of driving within 1-2 years. | |
