| Great question. I was pulling a gooseneck trailer with a 2012 F150 3.5 Ecoboost, about 16,500 pounds total load. I bought a new 2025 Ford F350 Powerstroke (Standard output) in November and it pulls that load so much better its a night and day difference. I got closer to 8 mpg with the F150 under load, and the F350 gets 11-12 mpg, and it handles the load way better. I tow the 16,500 pound load about 60% of the time I'm driving the pickup. By the time you pay up front for the engine and buy the def, I have not calculated but I can tell you that when I'm pulling my normal load, I don't seem to care about the additional cost, but I really, really needed to upgrade to something more heavy duty than what I had. If you aren't pulling a load, there's probably not much advantage of having a diesel. | |
