| Right or wrong, there's a reason why the 50 cow dairy are few and far between. Yes, a lot of people can point at the markets or the dairy co-ops, or crop insurance and ethanol (everyone's favorite whipping post). But imo, the workload was the biggest reason why. Same reason why livestock in general has dwindled. The younger generations figured out there's a world out there beyond the stanchions that's easier to make money, and enjoy life rather than be married to 50 cows that need milking twice a day and round the clock care.
