professor asked how many feet in a mile...5280
An abstract concept until it is experienced in some manner. On another note, directions, those living in smaller towns can give better driving directions than those in much larger cities...because they have experienced or are aware of various streets. 5280 would/should have been taught in elementary school., but children tend to parrot it unless they have experienced this distance in some manner.
State/federal highway map reading....good luck Smartphoners. Its something that has to be learned/experienced. Drop me off anywhere in the continental United States, and I could find my way home without a guidance means. My previously learned map reading ability and nation wide driving experiences are still intact mentally.
If a person does not use it, like 5280 feet, then they tend to loose it, especially when taught in elementary school. |
