It sure wouldn't hurt to contact GMAC, if there's still money owed, you can go after the estate and executor, or the auction company.
I had a title with a lien, not even that old but junkier and bought from a "reputable" company (more reputable than me at the time!), the DMV just gave me a title with the lien carried forward. I have bigger things to worry about.
Any advice on how to get a 24 year old lien released on a farm pickup?
