UP / Thumb of Michigan
This is my long time friend Rick. Rick is one of those guys who, if a biography was written about him, would make most skeptical of how factual it was. He's a lot of fun, very motivated and can motivate others, and he's one the toughest SOB's I know.

I called him a couple months ago. How ya doing Rick? Oh man, not so good- I'm on my last leg. I laughed for a while on that one.

Last August, his leg was amputated. Sugar related. He was fitted for a prosthesis last September. He was talking about making a ride on an E bike as soon as this spring. A week ago today, another friend hauled him and his bike to Menominee Mi. He made it to the Cut River Bridge by last Friday. Wanted to get to the Mackinaw Bridge, but circumstances beyond his control prevented that. But he did get about 170 miles in 4 days. He went 65 miles the last day.

He stayed with me last Wednesday evening. Had a flat tire Thursday morning. Took it to a tire shop, yep they could fix. Next question Rick had was "Man- you aren't gonna charge me and arm and a leg are you? That'll screw up the rest of my trip!" Took a minute for the tire guy to catch that one.
