Those two things will make a big difference without spending a lot of $'s.       


I have no doubt that the Razor beater is better but in most cases when guys put them in they were replacing a rock trap with very worn, very smooth, smooth bars on it.       Putting new serrated rock trap bars in our old 1640 made a huge difference feeding tough beans into the rotor.


Additionally, make sure the rotor intake is in good condition.   Square, sharp edges are a lot better than worn smooth edges.
