Years ago I decided to have steak for company rather than pizza.  Went to the local butcher shop and sirloin was $2.50 a pound.  I bought 4 pounds.  While I was waiting for the butcher to cut the 4 steaks for me I noticed in the display that there was a 10 oz. sirloin for $3.50 in a package.  I asked the butcher if the steak I was buying was $2.50 and he confirmed that it was.
When I was paying for it I asked about the $3.50 10 oz. steak and he smiled, squinted one eye and said, "well some people just like to have things packaged and don't like making decisions."

The ad from HyVee reminded me of that, they have an 8 ounce steak they advertise for $8.99.  I'd be willing to wager that many people read that as $8.99 a pound and after hearing how high meat is they think it's a bargain not realizing that it's $17.98 a pound.
