Fancy computers are a waste of money for school. 

2 graduated with old used computers, one has masters in HCI and worked for Google and other major players, the other graduated summa cum laude with a computer science degree got 5 job offers including NASA and now works for a company remotely as he travels.

Neither had a need for anything beyond a basic computer.

If kids are in school to learn they need a computer that will let them communicate, not play games.  My friends kid graduated with a degree in graphic arts and he didn't have a super computer either, he's worked for a major grocery and it's possible you've even seen his picture on one of their trucks.
