When Microsoft is leaving intentional backdoors in their security software, they look pretty silly to security researchers:

They're finding a huge number of security issues in Windows, which make it look like an OS built on Swiss cheese:

https://www.windowslatest.com/2026/07/15/microsoft-patched-a-record-570-windows-11-flaws-in-july-4x-last-year-as-ai-finds-bugs-faster/

Microsoft then gets pissy about white hat hackers embarrassing them, and they start threatening legal action against someone finding zero-day security holes:

This shows you how un-serious Microsoft is about security.

I've suggested to my congressional delegation that the US government needs to pick up a Unix (pick one - Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD), and improve the security, add crypto signatures to software updates and application installations, and start working with critical industries to develop and field an operating system that puts security first, and stupid "features" last. The number of small, rural hospitals in the US that have been attacked by hackers because of holes in Windows, compromising patient privacy, sometimes resulting in patients being sent from hospitals that were shut down due to the lack of access to their EHR systems. It's absurd. Microsoft is now a national security threat, both to organizations and to individuals.
