North Central OH | Never had that issue, even scraped down to the steel and still didn't have an issue. Many different grades of red wings, mine are on the higher end, but haven't had an issue like that with cheaper brands I used in the past either. What kind of sole attachment is it? Mine have been welt, got the stitched rim around the outside other styles are less sealed.
I might be miss understanding do you mean in from the top, or up from the bottom, I assumed bottom in the above comment. Either way do have that issue.
