For the miles you are driving, I would keep the IH and put a lower geared 2 speed rear axle in it. It can't start a load good because of the 4.44 rear axle. The little DT's need some rpm. For the short trips, something in the 5.50 range would be fine. Most Allison's are overdrive, some have two overdrive gears. How many speeds is it? I would look for a two speed rear end with around 5.50 high and 7.50 low, and you would have no issues pulling out of the field.

The 6 speed manual in the Ford is not going to be great pulling out of a tough spot either. A manual needs around a 10/1 low gear to pull of tough spots. The 6 speed isn't that low usually.
