I'm involved in an organization where I keep records - board minutes and the like. I've been thinking lately about the process of keeping records for "posterity". The thought crossed my mind if I should put the records on a USB drive, instead of printing off records on paper and keeping them that way. Then I got to thinking.... if I did this 20 years ago, I probably would have put them on a CD, or maybe even a floppy.... and if I had put records on a floppy or a CD years ago, would I be able to access them now? And if I put records on a USB drive today, will I be able to access these records indefinitely in the future? I am interested in hearing thoughts..... What is the future of storing information electronically? Is storing records on paper still the best way to keep records indefinitely? I am guessing someone is going to suggest "Cloud Storage". However, I think that could have its problems as well. ?? Thoughts? |
