The starter on my Arctic Cat 400 quit a couple weeks ago when I was planning to use it to spray a row of soybeans that I had missed. It was pretty easy to remove/reinstall the starter. The starter brushes were worn down and not making contact. Aftermarket brush holder is about $13 + $6 shipping on the internet. If somebody locally would have had the brush kit for $20, I probably would have just replaced the brushes and touched up the armature. I looked up dealers in this general area, and then decided it was a better use of time to just go ahead and order a new starter from Caltric for $44 including sales tax. USPS delivered it in 4 days from California. Maybe some day in the future AI will be able to access data on aftermarket part reliability. Most small electric start engines don't seem to charge fast enough for short run cycles. When I looked up a new battery for our ATV at Menards, there were several that have the same identical dimensions even though the box they came in was a different size. The same battery with higher amp hour rating was the same price so I put that one on my ATV. I don't run it enough to find out if it will make a difference, just thought it was worth a try.
