Subject: OEM vs Aftermarket Artcic Cat Starter

Our trusty old Arctic Cat 700 might need a starter. OEM is $280.00 - $300.00 . There are numerous listings on Ebay & Amazon for $28.00 - $60.00. I've been thru a couple $28.00 starters in the last ten years. Today my atv mechanic told me he thinks the starter is pulling excess power and not turning as fast as it should. The charging system checks out fine. He check a bushing inside the starting mechanism, He suspected wear/galling but found almost none. He suggested another starter. He is aware that I use cheap starter and asked if maybe that was the problem He is an honest guy, not trying to sell parts. The machine gets used for a lot of several minute run cycles. eventually the battery wears down. If machine is driven for 15-20 minutes at a time everything is ok. Battery almost new.
Are 28$ , 60$ and 300$ starter all the same?
What's the NAT opinion?
