Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Another NO from my experience, I tried an Add on GPS for my iPad with a rock marking app. My idea was to mark rocks on the iPad while doing tillage and come back later with the iPad and a loader to pick up the rocks.
I went out with my Ranger and marked some rocks. After marking a few I thought I would check it out by using the iPad to navigate back to the rocks like I would with the tractor and loader. The marks were nowhere close to the rock locations. Some even showed up as being in the neighbors field.
I believe the GPS was simply that inaccurate. So my rock marking plan failed but I had found some rocks so I went back with the loader and was able to navigate back to them by following the Ranger tracks instead of using the rock marking app.
Possibly if I had been using my GPS from the planting tractor with Terra Star Pro C the results might have been useful. I have not explored using the GPS from the tractor into a phone or tablet. What I had tried was an add-on GPS with WAAS. Possibly other GPS sources with correction would have been successful.
I did see a another rock marking app where it could be setup in sections. Rather than just mark the rock at the GPS location which could be off with a wide implement, the operator could choose which section left/right of center was appropriate. Again an accurate GPS source would be important both in the marking and pickup vehicles.
