I talked to a neighbor: electrical contractor. Asked how the building trades are doing. He said ALL of them face the same problem: locating employees who can do the work & show up reliably. Says it is a real problem. Public education’s fixation on college has warped the educational system. It is not prepared to produce people who are willing to work trades with suitable skills. Too many women in charge of education: will not change for the better.
My own father-born in 1909, had to take Latin in high school because the mockery-mucks were so enamored of erudite education-and stupid as dirt. He was a farmer: they gave him nothing of what he needed to be a better farmer.
Not sure I agree entirely. 5-10 years ago they may have had an especially tough time finding applicants, now every other graduating male is looking to be an electrician. Laborers and even plumbers not so much. The women have always preferred steady, less physical, less risk jobs, you can't blame the men for catching on. |
