As expressed above, this needs to be defined better since microbiota can affect our internal body...outside of gut.
I have no idea if researchers have suggested/theorized what they think happens. Berberine has different side effects, which might suggest if a person has the right gut bacteria, then it works as suggested...say blood thinner & cholesterol effects.
Also, keep in mind genetics....Chinese are not the same as say Americans, gene wise.
