I think it should pay for itself if it lets you know the fence is off for any reason, sooner than you'll find out by having cows in the front yard!
My only problem is that I have a lot of pieces of fence I shut off with knife switches to minimize weed load on the whole system...it won't help me to remember to turn those back on before turning cows in to those paddocks, even if it doesn't happen often.
EDIT: Actually, the only time we've had cows in our front yard due to fence problems was when about 40 of our neighbors cows showed up there on an early morning in late March...making 6" deep hoof holes to fill. (The neighbor had cows but essentially no real fences; the cows basically were on the honor system to stay home.)
