Overall obesity, they wrote, defined as any BMI above 30 kg/m², was associated with a 4.2-year reduction in life expectancy for men and a 3.5-year reduction for women. Obesity class III, defined as BMI at least 40 kg/m², was associated with a 9.1-year reduction in life expectancy for men and a 7.7-year reduction in life expectancy for women."
