Subject: RE: R and D Tax Credits

I'm glad you pointed out these cases - it's incredibly important when researching the R&D credit to work with a firm who includes audit defense and stands behind their reports! I've been in the agricultural space since I was a child, having a homestead, garden product company and crossbreeding in greenhouses. I'm now working in tax strategy and am focused on finding ways to locate funding for farmers.

I work for Leyton who utilizes a success-based model and we will decline studies when they're unqualified. In the case where you are doing research and keeping records it can be beneficial to look into the credit. Our firm includes an opt-out period which allows us to review the data and if you feel the credit wouldn't be substantial enough to continue you can opt-out without any fees. The reality is you'd expect to receive about 10% of your QRE's(qualified research expenses), personally I think it's worth looking into if you're getting $20k+.

A few qualified examples would be: Testing growing methods, plot trials, adjusting soil comp, developing new watering systems, feed ratios, crossbreeding, etc.
Financial records - P&L statements, purchases (called qualified research expenses), payroll w2, invoices. If you have technical records, it can help expedite the process - however any notes, photos, emails, supporting documents and data would be sufficient!

I'm looking to chat more with a few farmers, even if you're not interested in proceeding with an R&D study. I'm working on Salt (State and Local Tax), R&D, IEEPA refunds, and Section 180. I would love to get feedback from people who are interested, or have gone through the process - good or bad. Feel free to shoot me a text or call if you want to get in touch 617-645-4978
