| Actually I am pointing out the fallacy of some apparent hard fast rule of just believing what experts say instead of thinking for yourself. Just so you know extremely few of the experts on any given topic take part in conducting research.
The “see what you did there” is actually just me flipping the script to see your reaction. In this case it is you that sees that the experts don’t know what they think they know. It is usually me in that role. You usually take the role of being steadfast in your belief that the experts are always correct while I am in the role you normally play by ignoring that bias and/or lack of knowledge among the experts is at play. It is amusing how you have called what I’m doing “cultish” behaviour. Lol
The point I made elsewhere is that had this conversation happened at a different point in time, and you maintained your usual attitude towards the experts, we would both still be in opposition of each other but in our normal roles. You only changed roles because of the value that hind site provided you. There isn’t really much thought required to take the position you do. I know it has been incredibly easy for me to follow in your footsteps. There’s practically a prewritten script provided. I know it sounds foolish from the other side, as you are now seeing, because I am normally on the side you are currently occupying.
If current studies, or current advice from experts, involves anything that influences their bias such as funding or penalties dependant on the finding, it is little more than an ad also. It only requires bias of a few experts. Then the experts “below” them follow their lead. Then that pattern continues all the way down to a few “ding bats” in society.lol The appearance of consensus can be achieved and believed by the unsuspecting public.
Edit to add: Actually, a more correct way to say it would be that there is consensus. There is consensus by the lower level experts and some ding bats of what the studies (ads) found. All it takes is for bias to be added into the system by a few experts at the top and the follow the leader without thinking for themselves mentality does create a consensus. That consensus is for what the study(ad) conclusion is though, not the underlying science.
