I got hay sometimes in the same big round bale where some got preservative after baling off a windrow next to a tree line or something, and then the next ones are dry and need nothing on them. Works fine. Now with that said, I have heard horses can be funny with the smell of the preservative in some cases, even if you as a person can't smell a thing, so maybe that might be the actual reason to keep things separate?
