I got a pair of these, and other than the initial cost, I can't say enough good things about them.
They are adjustable height, each leg adjusts independantly and swivels just a little so they sit on uneven ground without 'rocking', they have a pocket at each end so you can put a 2X4 in the pocket and make a 'table' of any size you want with them, and they have holders on the legs for holding panels/sheets/plywood up to 4X8 upright off the ground
(leaned a little to the back so it doesn't fall over
). The top is metal, but has screw holes so you can mount a sacrificial piece of wood to the top. Folds in about 15 seconds, and has a carry handle. Folds to be about the size of a piece of 4X6 lumber, the top is a channel that the legs folud up into, so they take up very little space when not in use.
No, not cheap, but the only time I ever get out my old home made sawhorses anymore is if I have several things to paint, and want them up off the ground
(and they won't fit on the ones I have linked
) Got them a couple years ago on sale for about $70 each, and if you do a lot with sawhorses, they are worth it, you can adjust the height to not strain your back, and if space is a premium for you like it is for me, they fold up very compactly.
