| Back in the 80's Dad paid $7 per hour which was double the minimum wage of $3.35 per hour. I had plenty of volunteers once but the same kids never came back a second time. I don't know what you'd have to pay now but I'm sure you'd be disappointed in what you got for your money. When I went away to college Dad bought a New Holland automatic bale wagon. I still use the bale wagon and have added a round baler. If you are going to be in the hay business you need to mechanize the handling because I don't think you'll find reliable labor at any price. Think bale wagon, accumulator and grapple, one of the units that band multiple bales together, round baler, or large square baler.
I used to work with a dairy farmer with 3 good looking daughters. He always said if you have the girls the boys would come. Today he has 3 son in laws that are all involved in the farm. | |
