Depending on who is doing the work and what their hourly rate is, replacing the tank may make sense. If the dealer treats the fuel tank but customer needs to have a bunch of service calls to change plugged fuel filters till the junk in the tank gets cleaned out, changing the tank may be cheaper in the long run. Also have to figure in the cost of the fuel filers. If it’s a newer tractor with a finer filter it likely costs a lot more than the ones on our old mechanical injection diesels. Filter costs can add up fast as well. We are long past $50 service calls and $25 hour labor.
Power Service also makes a fuel biocide that has worked for me in the past. TSC used to carry it on their shelves locally. I think they still do.
If they are getting the bad fuel from the bulk tank, that needs addressed as well. Long term storage of fuel on that bulk tank probably needs addressed even if it’s not the main source of issue yet as well.
Here, depending on severity, I’d treat the tank, order a bunch of filters, and run it. I’d also try to run the tractor more to work through the cleanup sooner. BTDT.
Exactly, some tractors it may be cheaper to change the tank than it is to fix the issue with THAT tractor, however, the neighbor in this case needs to address the algae in his big tanks as well.
Treat all tanks with an Algicide/Biocide, and have a few sets of filters on hand LOL
