Move forward to today and the improvement in genetics is staggering, and in many cases the improvement of the farmer/farmer practices is staggering. Not "talking the market" but.... corn genetics tolerance for dryness and heat have advanced leaps and bounds since the 1980s. Agreed fully. Better planters, fungicide, VRT fertilizer, more effective herbicides that have less drag on the crop, you name it- all of it.
If you think the same advancement has been made for weeks on end of too much moisture while the plant is getting established, then your climate or soils mean you don't experience it much.... These are some 40' laterals installed circa about 2002-2003 that I was marking today because I intend to go back and split them after seeing this too many times. No way, no how, will the junk in the centers of them ever catch up. And.... it all would have looked like that junk without the tile that IS already there working.
