I’ll admit anything planted prior to 22nd of April looks almost perfect in Iowa. Stands are even and look to be very good. But if it was planted after that rain and ground that is not pattern tilled. It’s uneven and struggling. The yellow smaller corn the OP is talking about won’t recover well from this heat. Once you see a difference in the corn it will never recover to its full potential. I’m not saying 5 days of heat will kill the crop by any means. It’s just gonna severely stress the struggling acres. I can’t speak for Illinois where they been hit over and over with huge rains. But corn doesn’t like prolonged wet feet…it never recovers 100%. My opinion we are looking at maybe a 176 average. But just my opinion.
Joey. You would have a lot more positive reactions if you would just admit that every year isn’t a perfect garden spot..and that nothing can keep us from having a monster crop every year. Tons of variables to raising a decent crop. Call me ignorant all ya want…but arrogance takes the cake on your replies. Good too hear from you, Matt. Yeah, I’d say if a guy snapped a couple lines from say Cresco, to Mason city, and another a little further south, to say Greene, that would have to be a supreme garden spot so far. Our frog ponds that usually drown out or at least get stunted badly are at full yield potential. Biggest rain I’ve had since snow melt has been a little over an inch in one event, 2 1/2” over 3 days 5 weeks ago. We needed that one, beans were in dry dirt. Supposed get heavy thunderstorms here mid morning, we shall see what happens. We could sure use a good shot before a week of heat. Looks pretty stormy out as I type this, but so far nothing. |
