East Central, Nebraska | that reminds me of a situation years ago when a local dairy bought a quarter to put their operation on. they went in and did all their building. the neighbors were all pissed about it happening. after things got built they were notified that they built on about 20 acres of wetlands. i was the one to plant the last crop on the quarter before they started building and i did not notice anything that would resemble a wetland. the previous farmers farmed and certified all the acres. i don't know the particulars but i know the only way the dairy was able to get out of the situation was to buy 20 acres elsewhere and pretty much turn them to grass and the property hasn't been touched since then. no crops, no cows, nothing.
i didnt think you could just pick and choose what you certify but i could be wrong.
i think i would figure out a way to leave it in the owners name and just farm it, though then i don't know how you would insure it. then if you had a crop insurance audit on your other acres you would have to explain where the extra grain you sold came from. sounds like a mess.
