Subject: RE: More E85 pricing

grower3 - 6/26/2026 21:22 I love E30 but I don't see why E85 needs to go away. The main problem with it is not priced aggressively in most cases. That problem exists with E30 also but maybe to a lesser extent. If a retailer is satisfied with X cents a gallon profit for E10 IDK why they can't make the same margin on other blends instead of gouging their customers for them. Some use the excuse that higher blends don't sell as much volume but a lot of that is because of pricing. The closest E85 available for me is about 15 miles away but it's barely any cheaper. Most small stations don't have blender pumps and can only offer a limited amount of choices so that's another problem.

I’m not saying it has to go away, I’m saying it’s a very very limited market and likely will be that way forever.

Money and time spent promoting it is basically wasted advertising.      And anywhere that there is a dedicated E85 pump without an E30 pump next to it, is wasted sales opportunities.
There is far more sales opportunities with an E30 pump than an E85 pump.    Approximately 95% of the vehicles on the road are capable of burning E30 vs approximately 8% that are capable of burning E85.

Even getting E15 into every vehicle that currently burns E10 represents more potential to increase Ethanol sales volume than increasing sales of E85 to current FFV’s does.
