Pittsburg, Kansas | I just have to go on my own personal experience. For me a low carbohydrate ketogenic diet did the following in a time span from one week to about 9 months of eating that way. Edit: the feet neuropathy took longer. I'm 72 years old.
Reversed diabetes of 25 years
A1c to around 6 (pre-diabetic)
Eliminating need of 4 insulin shots a day
Got me off blood pressure medicine
Stopped knee and lower back pain
Above getting me off regular pain medicine
Eliminated the need for knee replacement
Caused some long term moles to disappear
(One that was problematic at times)
Greatly improved bathroom smells (according to wife)
Lost 100 pounds of excess fat
Eliminated jock itch and need for medicated powder
Toenail fungus tremendously improved
Feet neuropathy almost completely eliminated
Probably several more I've forgotten.
Started eating that way 7 and a half years ago. I have no intention of going back to the way I was eating, which was pretty decent as a diabetic because was able to keep my A1c at about 7.0 back then which was considered good control for a diabetic.
And you want me to change? LOL. I don't think so.
As far as getting some carbs, I definitely have the last couple weeks. Two back to back Alaska cruises (on a 10 day NCL right now) and the desert bar is sometimes having its way with me. Had to let my belt out one notch. And my CGM lets me know about it when I stray.
But back home it will be back to no more than 20 grams carbs a day for me.
But then again I might die an hour from now because of the low carb way of eating I've been doing over seven years. Then you can say I told you so.
LOL
And that's saying nothing about my wife's health improvements eating the same way.
