Pittsburg, Kansas | Yes I have seen that study. First off, mice don't normally eat a lot of meat.
While they are good for early research and good to determine studies to follow up in humans, some things in mice work good and may translate to humans and other stuff not so much.
Bikman, insulin researcher, has weighed in on that particular study. He didn't worry much about it. He says that a human may have delayed insulin response after long term no stimulus. But it takes only one challenge and the pancreas says " oh, so we are doing this again".
He says if you are going into a doctor's office for a glucose tolerance test and have been long term low or no carbs, just eat some carbs the day before to pass the test. You might fail it without a insulin challenge prior.
In other words, in humans it is not a problem. If you are worried about your mice, a low carb diet for them is probably not the best choice.
