| I don’t care if it’s a $1000 kit that pays for itself in 2 months with $1.20 E85, most people are not going to modify their vehicle to burn E85.
Why? Because availability of it sucks and even at that, most places that have it available aren’t actively trying to sell it. If it’s currently priced within 50 cents of E10 there’s no incentive to use it (using your numbers). That’s reality at a lot of E85 pumps even in corn/ethanol country.
The corn/ethanol groups need to focus on selling more of the mid range ethanol blends (E20/E30) and forget about E85. It’s a dead end market that has little opportunity for growth unless they get the auto manufacturers on board and get more FFV’s as standard equipment. And even then, it takes a long time to turn over the fleet of vehicles on the road. If half of all new vehicles sold in 2027 were FFV’s you’d only move the needle from 8% of the vehicles on the road being FFv’s to maybe 10% after 1 year. That’s assuming none of the scraped/wrecked/retired vehicles were FFVs, which some absolutely will be as some of them are already getting old.
If there isn’t an E30 nozzle next to it already, every E85 pump is wasted opportunity.
