Latimer Iowa | Agree with the others. It does depend on if you are direct cutting or swathing. Swathing can/should be done earlier and will help material flow if you have many weeds.
If you have a small number of acres direct cutting with the combine below 13% is the easiest. I would still put them in a bin and run a fan for a week to take the sweat off. With our humidity it is hard to get much drying in just a bin but it will get them in shape for storage. We like to start direct cutting below 18% and run them through a continuous flow dryer. Gets them off earlier for double cropping and gets them out of the field for weather risk. Oats will lodge more the riper they get. | |
