I have not been down this rabbit hole:

AI - Gluconeogenesis (the production of new glucose from non-carbohydrate sources) operates via a classic negative feedback loop. The primary goal is to maintain stable blood glucose levels (homeostasis) to supply organs like the brain with constant energy, particularly during fasting or intense exercise

If this negative feedback loop failed, I would assume higher glucose levels is possible. I have no idea if this feedback loop can be evaluated in regards to its fitness.
