| The reflecting pool originally used Municipal water. Bit it is huge, and was overtaxing the city's water system. They set it out to take it's own water from the Tidal Basin with it's own treatment system. That system was added in the 2010-2012 upgrades. The pool always had some algae issues. Before the new system it was drained twice a year and manually cleaned. When the blue pool liner was installed it changed both the wavelengths of light and the temperature of the pool and basically supercharged the algae. The older system wasn't designed for the load. It would be like putting a 35' draper on a 4400 JD. Anywho. They dumped industrial hydrogen peroxide in the pool to kill the algae, which attacked the polyester liner causing it to come apart. It's now also killing wildlife that uses the pool. The issues were/are fixable, just not this way. It's just one guy, who thinks he knows everything, and can't be told he's wrong, ****ing everything up as fast as possible because his own party doesn't have the back bone to stand up to him. This isn't how the govt is supposed to be run, but it is what the Founders feared. |
