East Central Arkansas | I don't think they bite through clothing. I think they crawl up any opening in your clothing. They do like to get under the elastic in sock tops and your undershirts. I can't say I have ever seen one but have been eat up with them plenty of times. The stage that bites you is almost microscopic. I often notice then the night or next day after getting into them. Often anywhere you have snug fitting clothing. It seems they like the back side of knee, the crotch area and around the waist. Spraying with deet or permethrin really helps. I do my boots and the top of socks. I will roll my pants leg up and spray like 6 inches inside and then on the outside around the bottoms. If I have holes wore in the knees also do that area. I spray the area my overalls button on the sides. I wear a long sleeve shirt and and spray the cuff area slot. I hate using those sprays but those chiggers can make you miserable. Also trying to avoid ticks as we have more of them the last few years. Going ahead and bathing as sone as you can after being in them helps. | |
