I have seen similar and eventually the condenser failed enough to figure it out.
Probably not your case, though.
Ignition first, Ignition first, Ignition first. The carb probably isn't that complicated, or tough to get set right. Same for checking for vacuum leaks, unless there's a sticking or leaking valve. Weak ignition will make a carb very hard to get right.
