East of Broken Bow | I have one, and am really impressed at how well it takes the shock out of the load, but to be fair I never had a true spring cushioned hitch to compare to, just a solid hitch.
I got mine under $500 on sale at Husker Harvest Days years ago (ordered it at a booth, picked it up at the dealer a week or two later). It was pricey, but IMO, worth it. I would caution putting it on a half ton, because you lose quite a bit of height with it, but anymore 3/4 tons or 1 tons are plenty high, and the drop is usually welcome. If you are a one man show like I am, the extend and swivel is a great help, it has saved me quite a bit of time over the years.
Be warned, though, it is HEAVY, if you put it on/off yourself, you better not have a bad back because it probably weighs 50+ pounds, and you have to lift it, align it with the hitch, and then slide it into the receiver. I usually would install it before planting, and leave it in through pulling fertilizer tenders. I think the biggest thing is to get it out before winter and the salted roads, but I'd take it out as soon as I was done with it anyway just to keep it clean.
If they were still $500, or even $700 or less I'd say go for it. For $1000, I think I'd shop around a bit, and likely wind up with one anyway because the alternatives probably doubled in price since before Covid too. | |
