East of Broken Bow | I drove a couple before I got my Ranger, and the all seemed about equally 'loud', but to be fair I only drove 3 or 4 others, and they all seemed about the same.
One thing I did that helped a LOT, was to add soundproofing foam to it. You can get a box of the stuff cut in pieces about a foot square that will do a SxS for under $40, and in a short afternoon, install it. Basically, the stuff is about 1/4" thick, maybe a little less, and you can cut the pieces to size with tin snips. I took out the rear seatback, and stuck it to the back of the seat, as well as to the plastic panels between the engine and the seat. I applied it to the underneath of the bottoms of the seats, and to the outside and underside of the removeable storage boxes that fit under the seat, as well as the bottom of the roof. I would do some, and test drive it to see what helped and how much. I would say the biggest help was the back of the seat and the panels between the engine and seat. All the rest helped, but that did the most good for the time/effort/cost. I didn't have any kind of sound meter, but I would say by the time I got done, it was 1/3 quieter than before, and the kind of echoing buzz it had at a certain RPM was all but gone. I also added floor mats that I cut out of a 1/4" rubber floor mat that helped deaden the buzz a bit as well.
Have less than $80 out of pocket for everything, and spent a short afternoon and it did a world of good. I got the idea from internet videos of how to quiet down a Ranger.
Oh, and I found out you can buy kits with the pieces already cut to size for about $200, but honestly it was easy enough to do I would just get the stuff and cut it myself and save the money if I were doing it again. | |
