North Central Indiana | They expect a certain number of 56 lb units. Same concept as hundredweight or a ton. It’s a measurement of pounds of mass in a grouping larger than a single pound. I swear this isn’t that hard to understand.
It’s like metric tons vs tons. They aren’t the same 1 metric ton is 1.10231 tons. Or 2204.62 pounds. Is that more convenient for you? Know what a metric ton looks like, how many fit in a grain cart or grain bin? A bushel is fairly easy to measure. 2 5 gallon buckets roughly. Easy to visualize. Small enough to see significant differences but large enough to be a useful trading size. How many metric tons an acre do you grow? 4? 5? 10? Sure you can learn the differences but it’s not necessary when we have a system already universally understood
