NW IL | Can't speak for cotton, but on beans they are able to plant early and either get a yield bump or normal yield, and generally a bit lower wheat yield, but still profit positive. Jason in IN is planting a month early and the wheat is protecting it from frost. He's often 90bu on the beans.
The main thing is leaving a gap in the small grain so enough light can get to the beans/cotton. Exta space in wheat rows also leads to more tillering so you can get by with lower seeding rates. | |
