Hooker Twp,Ne | Those around in the 80s probably can remember this. In those days we didn’t have as big of bins and some were old gov bins. Most would have to take out gov loans on the grain. If you had some corn that tested 50# that went on bottom 2/3 of bin. The next 1/3 (top) would get the heavy weight corn. When guy came out to measure bin he took sample off top and get the heavier weight corn. Looked like you had more bushels that way. For loan amt. Yea you’d have to repay but the interest was cheaper. Same can be done with crop ins. If you have a loss the light test weight corn goes to top of bin thus fewer bushels,thus greater loss. Good year opposite to get yields up. | |
