EC IL | I think the confusion, as strange as it is, comes from the fact that late season favorable weather can add to kernel weight and how densely packed the starch is within the kernel "bubble" this results in higher test weight readings and thus the myth gets new life.
The truth is, test weight is mostly baked in before you plant, via genetics. Within a somewhat narrow range. High test weight corn can win or lose a yield comparison beside a low test weight corn. We all like the better quality though, or at least we should.
