NW Indiana | I'm going to open the can. Text weight has absolutely nothing to do with yield.
Real world example. A few years ago harvest half a field for high moisture at 28%. The average of those loads was 55lb test weight. The rest of the field was harvested at 17% and test weight was 59 lb. Guess what the yield difference was? Basically zero. There was some more harvest/natural loss with the dryer corn but it was basically off set by the difference of shrink charged (.14) vs natural that is considered (.125).
Point is the yield in the field did not changed but rather the space it took to hold it did. Test weight is a meaningless metric other than a grading tool used by elevators to determine if you are taking more of their space then what they deem is fair. It is meaningless to truckers unless the trailer isn't able to get to state load limits based on taking up more volume but most have enough space that isn't normally an issue. Stop wasting your time thinking about test weight. | |
