Wisconsin | 3rd. The surface they come with is too rough to use. A random orbit sander works fine for smoothing, it doesn't have to be polished, or get all the pits out, I just get the bumps smoothed down to a mostly level surface.
Thin coats of oil is the key, and don't use anything fancy like peanut oil, they're fancy because they RESIST polymerization. Linseed oil (flax) is one that polymerized quickly, soy oil is just as good. "Vegetable oil" is usually soy, as it's cheapest by far, so the cheapest vegetable oil is best for seasoning. | |
