I've found Lodge "pre-seasoned" to be a bit of a joke. It's way to rough to be ready-to-use. I like to grind and sand to bare, smooth iron, and start fresh with grapeseed oil. Couple times in a hot oven for an even base, then go from there on the stove top.
Edit to add: Use a VERY thin wipe of oil for seasoning. Like painting, more thin coats is better than globbing it on.

I've done several pieces of Lodge cast iron this way. I've tried other methods but this way produced the best, most consistent results. After sanding smooth, warm on stove top until just hot enough you can't keep your hand on it for more than a second or two. Wipe with oil then place into a 500° oven for 30 min. Turn oven off and allow cast iron tp remain in oven until cool. Repeat this process 3-4 times before cooking with it |
