| Something I’ve been pondering as my children get older…in 15-20 years what kind of scope/scale is it going to take to make farming a viable full time operation for a family in west central Iowa? Will owning and operating 500 acres of row crop(per family) feasible like it is for the baby boomers? We currently have a row crop operation and cow/calf operation. If all of my children(3) are interested how much land is that that going to take(maybe assume 2/3 owned. 1/3 rented?)? 500 per? 1000 acres per? More? I want them to have the opportunity if that’s what they choose but need to be realistic with how much we can grow a business without jeopardizing what we’ve put together already. TIA
