You can use a debit card / convenience of not carrying cash but no fees most places.
I buy diesel thru my Mudflap app. It usually saves considerable amount compared to pump prices. But they charge an extra 2% if you tie it to a credit card - no surcharge if it is tied to a debit card.
All that said, I don’t have a debit card yet as I haven’t evaluated the extra risk of having something tied directly to your bank account.
I’d appreciate other thoughts on that risk.

Local bank had a debit card problem approx. 6 weeks ago (according to messages left on their website), May 15 message stated their solution was to issue new cards, would be notified when the new card was ready to be picked up.

I have talked to 2 people who had their cards replaced, both had problems with their card.

When I hadn't heard anything, I left a message yesterday asking if I was getting a new card, their reply was new cards were only being issued to customers that had experienced a problem with their card, and my card was still valid.

Sister was here today, she stopped by the bank to ask about her card (talked to G.M., G.T. ?, she worked at the bank when we were still in high school), 2000 cards were affected, none of the customers lost money, but the bank did lose some money.

I only have 1 credit card and 1 debit card, I check my accounts every day, went to Auto Pay out of my checking account on all the utilities except land line/cable TV, I drop off a check there and at a different bank for my credit card.
