Subject: RE: Home geothermal heat/ air conditioning

NE Iowa
Built a house with geo heat/cool with ground loops in the field in '21/'22. Our utility charges a reduced rate in the winter on the electricity used by the geo system. Was 1/2 rate when we built in '22, but is more than that now. For the past calendar year, our average bill has been $236 with a high of $309 in Feb and a low of $172 in Nov. One thing to know about - I think the system runs a higher percentage of the time than a traditional gas heat / elec AC system. If you put your hand on the vents, I don't think the warm air is as warm as with gas heat and the cold air is as cold as with 'normal' AC. Not a big deal - just different.
